What is Clearing?

Clearing is another opportunity to apply to university. You can apply through Clearing if:

  • You haven’t applied anywhere yet.
  • You didn’t get the grades you needed for your first or insurance choice universities.
  • You’ve already applied but didn’t receive any offers (or none you wanted to accept).
  • You’ve already applied but have since changed your mind about what or where you want to study.

How does Clearing work?

Clearing 2024 opened on 5 July, and you can apply for a course as soon as you have your exam results.

If you’re waiting to receive your results, now is a good time to explore your Clearing options so you’re fully prepared when it’s time to apply.

Is Clearing first come, first served?

Yes, Clearing operates on a first-come, first-served basis. This means that once a course opens up for Clearing, places are offered to students as they apply, and they can fill up quickly. So it’s important to be prepared and act quickly once you receive your exam results. We recommend researching the courses and student life at the universities you’re considering. As soon as you get your results, contact the university straight away to apply.

Is Clearing stressful?

Getting your exam results and contacting universities through Clearing can feel stressful, but preparation can make it much easier. Follow the tips suggested above.
