About this placement

What is organised for students on commencement of placement?

Observing assessments and intervention of clients with Mental Health Practitioners.

Observing assessments with therapists.

Observing the referral line, triage of referrals and multi-disciplinary meetings
Service meetings Observing Psychiatrist appointments

What are the arrangements for mentors/assessors?

We have two mentors – see above.

What shift patterns are students allocated for learning?

Shift Notes:

Days: 0900-1700
Notes: Start times can be flexible, to be discussed with mentor

What patient care situations are available in this placement?

Primary care psychological therapy – mild to moderate anxiety and depression

No home visits – all carried out in clinic.

What nursing model is used for planning care?

Roper, Logan and Tierney

What core clinical skills can be learnt?

Clear and concise communication skills

Assessment of clients presenting with mild to moderate mental health problems.

Liaison with other professionals internally and externally.

Report writing

Accurate recording of clinical notes

Completion of risk assessments and management plans

Care planning

Referral to other services
